The Worlds We Create (A Villanelle)

♦ From my book ‘Nothing But The Rain’ ♦

Here comes the apex of another day,

The vulnerable moments undefined

Where dreamscapes manifest, but cannot stay,

What words often see through my souls cliche?

Within their night I am lost, soon to find

Here comes the apex of another day,

Every syllable seems to underplay

The significance of a world confined

Where dreamscapes manifest, but cannot stay

Is life malleable like potters clay?

Dying stars create the hearts of mankind,

Here comes the apex of another day,

These realms progress toward their own decay,

What times come? In our minds they fall behind

Where dreamscapes manifest, but cannot stay,

All there is, was, will be, dwindles away

Until we hold through the unconscious mind

Here comes the apex of another day

Where dreamscapes manifest, but cannot stay.

  1. Wow! I should repeat words used in the previous comment: a very lyrical, beautiful poetry .
I especially love the question: Is life malleable like potters clay? It inspires me! I could write something to answer it… (by the way, maybe one day we’ll co-write…) last but not least, the closing line is georgeous. Well, you’ll undesrtand I LOVED this Villanelle 🙂

    1. Thank you so much. It means a lot to hear such things. I’d be more than honoured to work with you on a collaboration and would love to see what you write about that question 🙂

  2. You’re welcome! ILet’s see what will inspire both of us for a collaboration… maybe a line in a poem, like this
that one touched me in your poem (I mean, all lines touch me, this one just a little more 😉

Is life malleable like potters clay?
I would anwer your question this way:

    life
    malleable
    potters clay

    heart
    breakable
    earthenware

    soul
    priceless
    porcelain

    1. Haha love the answer! You should put it on your blog. If you have a line, then let’s create XD although I am a little busy this week. I’m very happy that my words touched you my friend 🙂

  3. No apology needed, for sure. Limitations in structure are great ways to force creative solutions (whether in poetry or art or life). Total freedom can be as paralyzing as it is liberating. Good job.

      1. Hank you my friend. I appreciate that. I hope your weekend is going well too. I’ve just got back from a 630 mile round trip to drop my daughter off… So tired. I hope the drafts are going well 🙂

      2. It has been a long day. I was actually planning to, but then we started watching a movie called “Jeff, who lives at home”. It’s a really odd, interesting movie! And a recommendation if you want a feel good film XD
