Lost North Star

Eight years have passed
Since the day you passed,
Long and endless they go by,
Each day we think of you,
Still wholly mourn for you,
Northern star who guided us warmly
Through the weaving waters
Of life’s boundless oceans,
Now you are shining down,
Filling our lives with warmth,
Encouraging and loving us
From distances beyond our world.

Today is your day my friend,
The old man who loved
And lived, and by your deeds
We now live and eternally love,
These words fail to fill your void,
Yet without you these words
Would not be written at all,
Thank you for courage,
Thank you for character,
These gifts you gave so dearly,
Lighting the world more clearly,
Grandfather, dazzling, burning star.

(R.I.P. Fredrick Cotton, we miss you always)
